How to win at BlackJack

I can’t promise you’ll make big money at blackjack game. But if you stick to the bets that have the best odds and avoid those where the odds are worst, you’ll keep more of your money-and have a much better time. Basic blackjack strategy can reduce the casino’s advantage to less than 1%. The strategy works when the dealer uses one or multiple decks.

Strategy.

Determine if your hand is soft or hard. A soft hand always contains an ace and, when the ace is counted as 11 points, the total does not exceed 21. A hard hand does not contain an ace-or if it does, the ace must be counted as one point to keep the total from exceeding 21.

If you have a hard hand with a score of 12 or more.
Draw if you have 12 through 16 and the dealer’s up card is seven or higher.
Stand if your score is 17 or more.
Stand if you have 12 through 16 and the dealer’s up card is two through six.

If you have a soft hand.
Stand if you have 19 or more … or 18 if the dealer’s up card is eight or lower.
Draw if you have 17 or less … or if your score is 18 and the dealer’s up card is nine, 10, picture or ace.

Doubling down with hard hands.
Double down when you have 11 points and the dealer’s up card is 10 or less (not an ace).
Double down when you have 10 points and the dealer’s up card is nine or less.
Double down if your score is nine and the dealer has a four, five or six.

Double down if you have ace, four or ace, five and the dealer’s up card is four, five or six.
